Podcast Interview — Personal Branding

Those of you who frequent the small business and entrepreneurship blogs may know Yaro Starak of the Small Business Branding blog — an excellent site featuring original content.

Yaro did a podcast interview with me last week.

I really enjoyed talking with Yaro because he is a creative and inventive Internet entrepreneur — you can see that from the interesting approaches he is using in his blogs and websites. He also writes original content on niche topics that are hard to find elsewhere.

Yaro and I used Skype, the free Internet-based telecommunications service, to connect for the interview. The toughest challenge was scheduling. I am in the United States on the Eastern time zone, and he is in Australia (Brisbane, I believe). Being on opposite sides of the globe, my evening is his morning (next day). But we worked through that challenge and it was an enjoyable half hour.

One of the subjects we talked about was personal branding and how blogs and the Internet can help that process. Today, if you are an entrepreneur in any professional services line of work, then branding yourself is key to promoting your business. In the world of small business, people tend to respond to other people, not to faceless companies trying to appear big.

That’s why I am puzzled when I see people write business blogs and not have a picture of themselves somewhere on their site or even make their names known on the site. I feel you get much bigger bang for your blogging buck by branding yourself in connection with your blog. Check out Yaro’s Small Business Branding blog to study what he has done to brand himself in connection with his site.

  1. Thanks for the mention in this podcast.

  2. Thank you, Steve, for being so terrific to work with on Small Business Trends Radio. I feel we have gotten farther collaborating together as a team on that endeavor, than by working individually.

  3. Yes, this can be a part of you promotion, but it can work the other way around. The internet marketing world knows the MrX phenomenon, so not puting your picture and not identifying yourself works equally well, if you are promoting your “MrX” persona

  4. Great podcast! I am just in launching phases of my consulting business. I am inspired! I just started a Diary of a Start Up type of blog. Things seem to be going slow, especially after leaving the high pace corporate world.

I look forward to hearing more from your radio show.

I, thank you and Yaro for sharing.
