Every Small Business Needs an In-House IT Person

Ramon Ray writes on Smallbiztechnology.com how small businesses that grow to a certain size need to have an in-house IT person. And you also need to have local solution providers who come in and work with your tech person.

So what kind of skills does your in-house IT guy or gal have to have? Hardcore tech knowledge? Advanced degrees? An expert in certain kinds of technology products?

Would it surprise you to learn that the answer is: none of the above? No, instead try these attributes, as Ramon writes:

“Finding an IT guy/gal is kind of hard – but look around your community for that smart, bright, smiling, honest, well spoken, geek. That’s probably someone you should have a look at.”

Most of all, the in-house tech person needs to be able to choose local service providers and get the most out of them. With the wide range and complexity of today’s technology, no one person can be expected to know it all. Technology requires a range of skills. Not only that, but no one person will be able to keep up with all the new technology developments. That’s where local solution providers come in: they can be the experts, on-call at any given time.

  2. I agree with you. However, I feel that in this age all of us should try become more tech savy. This way, you can solve many of the problems ourselves. Technology is evolving all the time. When you started blogging in 2003, there were just few thousand blogs but now there are millions of them.
