Free Webinar – The 2 Areas Small Businesses Struggle Most With

Small Business Success IndexJoin us on the Web next week for a live gathering of successful small business owners and commentators, hosted by Network Solutions’ CEO, Roy Dunbar.

We’ll be discussing practical, real-life strategies for funding and marketing your business.  This gathering/webinar is in connection with the Small Business Success Index, a measurement of how small businesses in the U.S. are doing.  The Index is a joint initiative of Network Solutions and the University of Maryland School of Business.

According to the Success Index, finance and marketing are 2 areas that small businesses struggle most with, getting a D- in finance and a C- in marketing (compared to an A- in customer service).

It’s an hour-long event in which a small group of us will be meeting in person.  The event will be simulcast on the Web so that you can join in from the convenience of your desk.  Those participating include:

  • Kristina Bouweiri, CEO of Reston Limo, the largest independent limousine service in the U.S.
  • Tom Heath, Columnist, The Washington Post’s Value Added
  • Kelly Muccio, Founder of Lost Boys, a fashionable clothing store recently featured on Good Morning America
  • Surfy Rahman, Co-owner of Indique, a popular DC-area restaurant chain
  • Roy Dunbar, CEO of Network Solutions, host of this event
  • Anita Campbell, Editor of Small Business Trends (yours truly!)

One thing I really like about the line-up of speakers is that it includes so many business owners.  Who better to hear from?

  1. Adapting is the name of the game and we can salvage our business numbers by seeking advice from even our competitors…

This sounds great. I enjoy listening to practical advice from people who have actually experienced what I have.

Great mix of business owner types. A bit of product, a bit of service. I’ll be listening in! Given your comments about marketing for small biz often getting a C-, I thought I’d check a couple of these speakers out.

The GrowSmartBusiness.com site is pretty impressive and resource-rich. I like the web video/tutorials. http://www.growsmartbusiness.com/small-business-videos/ — fast and short lessons.

I also did a quick look at Reston Limo, easy site to find and navigate. You quickly know what you are getting into. Then Lost Boys — wow, that’s a tough keyword term to use. It took me some digging to find him and his co. Lost Boys of Sudan is probably the most famous and likely search result. But he’s doing a pretty good job of tapping the social networks. Their Facebook page is clean, too. Since we’re all trying to find ways to drive new sales, I’m very curious if the Lost Boys store is aiming at being predominantly a local phenomenon, which it seems to be.

Not that you were looking for a review of the speaker lineup, but I wanted to test the lineup before planning to listen in and from the quality of the sites and their marketing efforts — it looks well worth the time.

  4. I have registered and I have tweeted about it. Great line-up!

This other post included another Network Solutions survey and I found it pretty helpful because it explained how and why they are doing these surveys. I find it nice to know why a large company has decided to do something, especially when it appears to be out a genuine desire to help the market they sell to and serve.
