Lisa,

Thanks for bringing up this issue. I have to check out Andy Beal's site and learn more about ORM. I have to tell a business friend about this kind of service.

Good advice Andy. I also think we sometimes forget that everyday others are forming opinions regarding us and our businesses. It is not just what we say it is also how we say it.

Lisa, this part alone was worth the price of admission. I often read Andy's blog, but this sent me right back. Thanks.

"What types of mentions/conversations/keywords should people be monitoring? I put together a pretty extensive list last year and you can find it here:"

Appreciate the advice, Andy.

One of the terrific things about today's social Web is that small businesses can build a brand much more easily and inexpensively. It used to be that if you wanted a regional or national or international brand, you had to spend BIG bucks on TV ads, full page ads in national magazines, and the like. Branding campaigns like those were out of reach for most small biz.

Now, you can build up brand recognition by having a presence on social media sites -- where the cost is often mainly one of labor, and well within the budgets of even sole proprietors.

But it reminds me of the saying, "easy come, easy go." What you point out is that not only is it easier to develop a brand, the social Web also makes it easier for that brand to be sullied or intentionally sabotaged. That's why you need to monitor your brand online.

Your article of the 12 things you should track is great. BTW, the link was broken (had a period at the end) so I fixed it ... since I'm the Exec Editor and can do those things. :)
