Startup Weekend is an event that comes to your city. It is a 54-hour startup event that provides networking, resources and incentives for technology entrepreneurs to go from idea to launch.
Startup Weekend starts on Friday night, where you pitch an idea or join a team of entrepreneurs with an idea. Work with your idea through the prototype stage — often to production — throughout the weekend. Present your startup Sunday night in front of peers and press. The Mid-Atlantic SBIR/STTR Conference
Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, Morgantown, WV
The 2009 Mid-Atlantic SBIR/STTR Conference will bring together federal agencies, entrepreneurs, small companies, large companies, researchers, colleges and universities, venture capitalists and angel investors, federal laboratory and university representatives, as well as experts who provide assistance to or have an interest in doing business with ventures at various maturity levels.
The programs award more than $2.5 billion annually to innovative small businesses. Eleven federal agencies participate in the Small Business Innovative Research program; five participate in the Small Business Technology Transfer program.
Small Business Strategies to Survive and Thrive in a Recession
December 1, 2009, Portsmouth, NH
This workshop examines critical elements for starting or running a small business during difficult times, and helps existing or potential business owners create a strategic plan for cost cutting, financial management, improving operations and creating effective marketing strategies. Topics include leadership and management, improving customer relations, analysis of current business condition, and leveraging opportunities that may arise during a slowdown. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grants: Free Workshop
December 2, 2009, New Bedford, MA
The Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network (MSBDC), in conjunction with The SouthCoast Entrepreneurial Network: the Quest Center and the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center’s Technology Venture Center (ATMC), are sponsoring a FREE workshop for regional businesses interested in obtaining federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants.
The federal SBIR program funds over $1 billion each year of early stage R & D conducted by small businesses for technologies that have government and commercial applications. This event is intended to instruct small businesses in the region how to access funding through this program, how to increase chances of success for the award and how to manage an SBIR award if your application is successful.
