Unleashing Bold Initiatives

Unleashing Bold Initiatives

I read a lot to get inspired for my cartoons. I read a number of blogs, magazines, newspapers, always on the lookout for words or phrases that pop out at me.

One day I was reading the business section, and I read about a company “unleashing a bold new initiative.” I kept reading, waiting for some odd jargon when it hit me. “Unleashing a bold new initiative” hadn’t phased me one bit. That’s a really goofy, grandiose collection of words, and I’d skimmed right over it.

So I worked out a way to take this oddly commonplace phrase and make it utterly normal. And the above cartoon is the result.

  2. This one made me laugh out loud, Mark. I can literally picture business people sitting around a room and someone making a sarcastic comment like that. It is more real life than most serious articles.

This is a good one, Mark! I agree with Anita and I think that it’s the sarcasm that makes this one so funny to me. The guy’s hand on his hip is a nice little added touch to get that point across, too.
