  1. There is definately a growing need for small businesses to sit up and take notice of mobile trends.
    With the check in apps that you mention and Google applying for a new patent for a user based human filtering algorithm, I can see the user playing a massive role in the future of search.
    Bing are looking at ways to incorperate mood based results as well. Search technology is going through some big changes at the moment. I can see the way we use search and the results being very different in the not too distant future.
    Personally I think that mobile degrades the web experience but you have to move with the times or fall behind.
