Share of Mind, Share of Heart: Engagement for Nonprofits

Share of Mind, Share of HeartWhen I received a review copy of Share of Mind, Share of Heart: Marketing Tools of Engagement for Nonprofits by Sybil Stershic (@SybilQSM), I was instantly reminded of the years when I was teaching Marketing for Nonprofits at Antioch University.

During my interview for the job, the dean asked me if I had any experience doing marketing for nonprofits.

I remember sitting there, and taking a breath so that I could buy myself some time to think and saying:

“Well, I’ve been working at this manufacturing company for four years and they didn’t make a profit this year — does that count?”

I was joking, of course, and we both had a good laugh about it — but the subject of marketing for nonprofits has never been more serious.

With an economy that has significantly reduced donations, nonprofits have to take a strategic look at their organizations inside a broader context.  And this is where Share of Mind, Share of Heart can really help.

It’s common for people who are involved in nonprofits to look down on marketing as being too commercial because the focus needs to be on the mission of the organization.  Stershic walks a balanced path between holding true to an organizations mission and making sure that the organization and all its constituencies are viable for the long term.

Sound Marketing Guidance For Nonprofits

Share of Mind, Share of Heart is a small and easy to read how-to guide that will give you insight into the essence of nonprofit marketing.  You’ll get practical tools that you can use to engage the people who most impact your brand.

Throughout the book, you’ll find Action Plan Starter Notes that you can use to help you integrate and apply the content of the book to your specific situation.  At the end of the book are special worksheets that will give you the jumpstart you’ll need to take the next steps for creating a marketing plan for your nonprofit organization.

Nonprofits of all sizes can benefit from reading and using this book for developing their marketing plans and strategies.   The book is short enough, compact enough and easy enough to follow so that any nonprofit team will be able to go through this process and achieve powerful results.

About the Author

Sybil Sterschic’s journey into the world of nonprofit marketing started early in her life.  At the age of 15, she volunteered at a camp for intellectually disabled children where she discovered her passion for the world of nonprofits.  These days Sterschic is a respected leader and employee engagement expert.  She is also the author of “Taking Care of the People Who Matter Most:  A Guide to Employee-Customer Care.” She shares her expertise on the Quality Service Marketing blog.

Who This Book Is For

One of the interesting things about this book is that it’s written for leaders and participants inside of nonprofit organizations.  That means that even people who may not have the opportunity to do this kind of market or strategic planning at work will get the opportunity to flex their market planning muscles.

Share of Mind, Share of Heart is an ideal book for both volunteers, employees and leaders inside of nonprofits who are looking for an easy market planning guide to prepare them for the new year.
