hp pro x2 612 review

A new convertible device from HP aims to solve a problem caused by our trend toward portability without sacrificing functionality.

The HP Pro x2 612 can double as both a full-functioning Windows laptop and a larger-than-normal tablet. It features a detachable screen and keyboard. So if your tablet has always seemed to come up short on function, or if you’ve wanted to share a screen with someone but felt encumbered by a clumsy laptop, this convertible could be an option to consider.

Key HP Pro x2 612 Features

There’s not much more you could ask for from the HP Pro x2 612 as a laptop. Unless you’re putting a heavy demand on your computer — for tasks like video editing or professional photo editing — this device should suffice, and then some. It’s running Windows 8.1 Pro with a 64-bit, fourth-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processor.

The computer has a 12.5-inch touchscreen display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080.

It’s also got an Intel HD Graphics 4200 processor and either 64-, 128-, or 256GB Solid State hard drive. There’s also either 4 or 8GB or 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM memory.

So, as a tablet, there are few better on the market. And definitely, there are few if any bigger. The HP Pro x2 612 is sold with one of two different detachable keyboards and a touch pen stylus … more on that in a bit.

HP Pro x2 612 Pros

This computer is fast. There will be no time waiting around for it to boot or for apps and webpages to load. The Solid State hard drive certainly contributes to the overall speed on the HP Pro x2 612.

The main tablet part of the computer feels very durable and solid. When I spoke with a member of the development team at HP, he told me that the screen is made from Corning’s durable Gorilla Glass. The Solid State drive also holds up better in the case of an accidental drop or fall.

It was very nice to be able to use this device as a laptop and then be able to turn it into a tablet in order to show someone a website without having to lug around the keyboard.

HP Pro x2 612 Cons

I found that the native resolution of 1920 x 1080 was a bit of a problem when I was using this device as a tablet. The pen that came with the device helped, but only a little. Using my finger to tap on the screen proved very difficult, too.

The pen itself was not that accurate and would sometimes not register when I had tapped on the screen.

Who HP Pro x2 612 Is Best For

This is a great computer for those who travel a lot and need to work in different situations. The two different types of keyboards lend themselves to this. The travel keyboard is great for those situations where all you need to do is focus on work. And the power keyboard is great when giving a presentation, if you need to use USB ports, or you need a little extra battery life.

If you are in the market for a new laptop, check this one out. With a variety of options available at different price points, the HP X2 612 might be the right option for you.

  1. Does the HP Pro x2 612 Lap Top and Tablet Combined has Wi-Fi and can I purchase a wireless mouse: If so, how much is the cost? Also, does it have a camera?

If not, how much does it cost for these features to be added?
