I think I’ve said before that one of my biggest influences as a humorist is George Carlin. His use and examination of language (even, maybe especially, foul language) was just incredible.

So one day I was playing with combining a bunch of idioms like “get to work” and “get to the bottom of it” and I decided to see how many I could stream together in a row.

It was a Carlin-like exercise and it took me the better part of an afternoon to arrive at something that was both funny and understandable. My wife suggested the “get it?” at the end for the perfect cherry on top.

It’ll never be as good as a Carlin rant, but it was fun to pretend for a while.
