Social media can be an incredibly effective tool for businesses of all types and sizes. But the actual social networks that you choose can make a big impact on your chances of being successful. There are social media channels that reach nearly half of the earth’s population. And there are others with much smaller, but more targeted audiences like Twitter, Flipboard and BizSugar. Granted 321 million users is not small (Twitter), but compared to other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, it is. Each business must choose the social media marketing mix that works best for their specific needs and target customers. However, businesses must start with understanding of the options available amongst the social media platforms in the market.

What Is Social Media Marketing?

Social media marketing is the process of using social media channels to connect with consumers and spread awareness about your business, product, or service. Businesses can use social media marketing to increase awareness, promote products and sales, share useful content, and drive website traffic. Every company’s social media marketing strategy looks a bit different based on the channels they choose and the target audience they want to connect with.

What are the Top Social Media Channels?

The most popular social media platform by users is Facebook, with 2.7 billion. YouTube and WhatsApp have 2 billion global users, so they come in second.

Which Social Media Channel Should You Use to Market?

The social media channels marketing professionals choose for their strategies should really depend on who you’re trying to market to and what your goals are. For example, those looking to target Gen Z may be better served to create a presence on platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. Businesses like publishers that want their content to shine might opt for Twitter, Medium, and Flipboard. Many social media marketing strategies are likely to include big names like Facebook and YouTube.

The important thing to understand about social media platforms is they will give you access to the demographic you want to address with resources to maximize your reach. Understanding how to use these resources/tools is the key to truly optimize your marketing efforts on social media platforms.

  1. The list used to be much longer. But today, it is important to just focus on a few social media and make the most out of them. It is better than having your attention divided across different media.

    • hi Aira Bongco but i think each and every site which mention by annie pilon is very good there DA is very good if you work on all these sites your site must be get good link juice.

  2. Thanks Annie !

I think for business (and especially lead) generation purposes, there are five social media channels to consider: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, and Youtube.

Facebook and Twitter are effective for both B2B and B2C businesses. YouTube was still a bit more dominant in the B2C space, but nowadays have shown tractions from B2B businesses. Instagram is obviously more prominent in the B2C space, while LinkedIn is more about B2B.

    To summarize:
    B2C: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube
B2B: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, (to a lesser extent) YouTube

As a marketing consultant, we have used mainly Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram both for our own agency and our clients’ businesses.

What we did is by implementing an integrated approach in inbound marketing: we regularly publish content on our blog(s), and used the social media channels to promote these content pieces. We also utilize influencers, especially for our B2C clients (Instagram Influencers). The success rate vary depending on many different factors, but our most successful case was with our photographer client. Through our Instagram Influencer campaign, we gained an increase of 50% on bookings and inquiries during the campaign.

  3. Do you think such social network as avangardist.pro has a chance to be wide-spreaded? It declaired that it will be a first People’s network, meaning that people will independently affecting on the processes inside of the network (sencorship, national design and so on).
