Finding Happiness as a Baby Boomer Entrepreneur

Not long ago I had the opportunity to appear on Lime Radio’s “Be Happy Dammit!” radio program on Sirius. We talked about the trend in Baby Boomers starting businesses — and how it is the path to fulfillment and happiness for some.

Most entrepreneurs will tell you, it’s not about how many hours you spend running your business so much as it is about how you feel working them. If you are in a grind of a job that makes you feel beaten down, 3 hours a day is too much. But if you are building your own business and spending 10 hours a day doing it and loving the challenge, those 10 hours fly by.

Karen Salmansohn, the host, is infectiously upbeat — with a program called “Be Happy Dammit!” you’d have to be upbeat, right?

The interview came about through being part of Federated Media Publishing, which sells ad space for us here at Small Business Trends. Joining us on the interview was Bill Brazell, Director of Author Services for Federated Media.

It was a lot of fun, especially for me since I’m usually doing the interviewing. The interview is about 10 minutes long — go here to listen.

  1. Anita, very nice interview for small business week. I am sure that it’s nice to be on the opposite end of the mic at times – and you are very good at being the guest as well! It’s very inspiring to see the baby boomer’s having so much success in achieving their dreams – such as you have done. Congrats to them all. . .

  2. Although I’m not a baby boomer, I absolutely understand what it feels like to enjoy your job. It’s great to hear how motivated baby boomers are. I can only hope my generation will be half as motivated!

  3. Great lisenting! The up beat was very inspiring as well as very informative. Love the title “Be Happy Dammit” Great Job!!!

  4. Truer words have never been spoken. I started a small consulting business a few years ago and never regretted it for one minute.
