Entrepreneurs are having all kinds of fun with their RSS feed icons on their websites. Elevating them to the tops of the pages, “above the fold” as they say. Dressing them up. Designing their sites around them, in some cases.
Some of these icons are gorgeous. Others are downright cute! Like the Search Engine Guide’s RSS icon in the dog bowl (pictured left).
And it’s all part of a bigger trend in which, slowly but surely, entrepreneurs and business owners with blogs are catching on to what RSS can do for them.
My latest post over at the OPEN Forum site reviews RSS icons and what all this attention on RSS icons signals. Have fun with it: Those Crazy RSS Icons and Why They Matter to Your Business.
Yes they are getting fancy and cute now. I haven’t done anything with mine yet really but have been thinking about it. There are some that are kind of in your face though that might turn readers off.
I generally am really attracted to more colorful, fun graphics. I think this is a great way to attract more attention to your RSS feed. More attention to me will generate more subscribers. On the other hand, I don’t think it should be too large and overbearing.
Whoever said that you have to stick to the usual RSS feeder logo? These days, everything can be spruced up. Of course, you also have to be careful not to overdo it or your blog might look like one big clutter. By the way, have you heard of favicons? Apparently, they’re icons for your favorite blogs and web sites. Those look pretty snazzy too.
I have used the traditional RSS badges from the different RSS reader companies. If I found a fancy one that fits my layout, I will add it. It is a bit interesting that you don’t know the exact meaning of the three letters… Is it “Rich Site Summary” or “Really Simple Syndication”?
i love the dog bowl ideea 🙂
As Jennifer Laycock, the Editor of Seach Engine Guide pointed out to me in an email, the “feed” is in the feed bowl.
Get it? 🙂
I
I’m using a color rss badge too. I like the feedburner icon a lot =D.
I use a traditional orange badge, but the titles of my posts are next to it and update every so many seconds. But I really like a lot of the ones that I saw here and would like to have something more creative.
nice new icon. Thanks.
