We Have a Winner for Our Logo Design

Perhaps you recall the 3-part series I wrote, “Help, My Logo is So 1999!” In that series I invited you to weigh in and vote on your favorite logo designs. (I had used the Logoworks by HP design service and wrote a review of it.)

I am pleased to announce that based on your feedback, we have a winning logo design. It’s logo revision #8:

Logoworks logo revision 8

Revision #8 got almost double the votes of the next closest design, which was #2.

Now the most interesting part about #8 is that it was a throw-in by the Logoworks designer who worked on my account. It goes to show that sometimes giving your designer some creative license can pay off.

I am also thrilled to announce that we have a winner in our giveaway of a Logoworks by HP Gold logo design package valued at $399.

I did a random drawing of all those who left comments and voted for the various designs, and I am pleased to award the package to …. Jon Orana.

Jon is in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. When I notified him, Jon wrote back, “Wow! I’ll be using this free logo service for my newly founded Internet Marketing company, EffiStrat Inc. I’m blogging at www.anointedceo.com. You completed my day!”

Well, Jon, congratulations, and I am glad you will be able to make good use of the logo design package. I hope you enjoy the logo design process as much as I did.

And to everyone else, thank you all for participating. No matter which design revision you may have voted for, your input was invaluable. The comments left by you, dear readers, were more interesting and valuable than anything I wrote. 🙂

  1. Congrats John! Logo #8 was my favorite. . .

  2. A very satisfying end to the logo series. I’m sorry that it’s over – that was terrific fun and probbly my favorite series on smallbiztrends.

  3. Yeah, #8 was my pick too. Can’t wait to see how it looks on the site.

Congrats Jon! It’s always nice to win something free. Hopefully you will have as good of an experience as Anita did with logoworks.

  4. Thanks Chris, Amanda, staff of smallbiztrends, and of course Anita.

This win means a lot to me.

It’s coincidence that I started my career as web and logo designer back in 1999.

    God bless everyone!

    Hi Jon,

I’m thrilled to be able to offer this random drawing. I hope the experience with Logoworks is as satisfying for you as it was for me.

We look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

  6. Anita, I hope you were being tongue-in-cheek in saying that sometimes it pays to give your designer creative license… if you can’t or don’t do that, why would you hire them in the first place? Any time you enlist outside support, your ROI will be highest when you (a) hire the best minds, (b) give them clear direction, then (c) turn them loose to do what they do best. Any outcome that’s less than spectacular will attribute directly to your inability to do (a), (b), and/or (c).

Please let us all know how your new logo performs for you in the “real” world!

  7. Congratulations Jon

Anita, this was a great exercise and Jon, we look forward to seeing your design.

  8. I was able to follow this endeavor from the very start and I’m glad that it finally worked well on your part.

Congratulations on your new logo and likewise looking forward to your new site design.

    Hi John Black,

Now that you mention it, it does sound kind of silly to talk about giving creative license to someone you hire precisely for their creativity. 🙂

I only brought it up because using the Logoworks system you can be very very specific about what you want. But if you put blinders on and stick only to the one direction you are headed in, you can miss out on fresh ideas.

It illustrates your very point about setting people loose.

  10. Jon is very lucky to have won such a great opportunity. He should write on his blog about his experience in the same manner and let us all follow along. I would be intertested to see if he has the same positive experience.

Looking forward to seeing how well the new logo looks with the site. Congrats to you both!

  11. Way to go, Jon! And good luck with EffiStrat!

The process was an interesting one, and to me illustrates the classic dilemma of “the rules” clashing with the creative design process. The two are obviously not mutually exclusive; I like to make choice rankings based first on my aesthetics-response, and them try to add some objectivity by taking a closer look at the attributes of the short-listed options.

Let’s face it – there are as many pundits as there are “infinite monkeys on infinite keyboards”. Trust your instincts . . add a dash of practicality . . and go for it.

Thanks for the contest – when can we expect the next opportunity to group-think?

  12. Great logo!

I also love Logoworks and used them for my logo. I think I chose the logo that was one of their extras thrown in, too!

    Best of luck,

Anita: It has been fun to follow the contest. When will you start using it on your site?
