This economy has us all asking questions: what’s going to happen to my business? How will I compete? How am I going to get more customers when times are so tough?
With all those questions, it’s a good thing that John Assaraf and Murray Smith have written a book called “The Answer.”
If the name John Assaraf sounds familiar, it might be because he was in the worldwide viral phenomenon of a movie called “The Secret.” He’s the guy who made a vision board of his dream house and years later, found himself living in that exact house. John and Murray have taken the Law of Attraction principles covered in “The Secret” and applied them toward the building and growth of your small business into the business of your dreams.
Don’t Ditch This Because You’re a Skeptic
If you’re one of the people that believe that the “Law of Attraction” is only about “thinking yourself to success” — this is NOT the focus of this book. This book is all about DOING and ACTING. Stephen Covey is quoted on the cover and if he’s not all about “doing,” I don’t know who is.
It’s Two Books in One
The Answer: Grow Any Business, Achieve Financial Freedom and Live an Extraordinary Life is really two books in one. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
There was the “Law of Attraction” book; these chapters and elements explain and discuss the quantum mechanics involved in how our brain works, how our thoughts work and how we are influenced by them. So, if you’re not really into the “Law of Attraction,” you’ll either love this because it will make it more understandable to you, or you’ll find these explanations tedious.
The other book I saw in this was the actual “Applied” exercises and tasks that take you from just reading about the Law of Attraction, to actually putting it to use in building a business and a brand that can succeed regardless of what the economy is doing.
Case Studies Make it Real
The other wonderful feature about this book is the use of success stories and case studies from John Assaraf’s new company One Coach. The case studies are short and to the point. The focus is on the critical applications and lessons that he wants you to take away from the exercise and they support the actual exercise he wants you to do. Even if you’re not a case study fan – these are great.
In the interest of full disclosure — I’m a believer in the “Law of Attraction” for no other reason than it makes your marketing efforts effortless, fun and authentic. And in today’s economy with today’s social media focus this is critical (not to mention more cost effective).
The practical applied portion of the book is what makes this an absolute must-have of a book for small business owners. Even if you’re not into the philosophical portions of the book, the exercises and activities Assaraf and Smith take you through are easy, brilliant and effective.

If you don’t interpret it too literally, the law of attraction makes sense.
The Law of Attraction can be stated as this:
(1) Think about what you want (goals).
(2) Focus on your goals by thinking about them often.
(3) Your subconscious brain will have you to make decisions and take actions to move toward your goals.
(4) You are more likely to achieve your goals when you subconscious is working toward them.
Me, I don’t understand why people are skeptical about these steps. They seem so obvious. It’s what most of us do all the time.
I am a believer of the Law of Attraction. Gladly, it works for me or should I say “because I believed it worked for me.” 😉

Ivana,
Thanks for the review. Have you had time to watch the video email messages?

Great review. I also read this book and particularly find it better than nearly all other business books because of its two part setup focused on the neuroscience for goal achieving and the hard core business fundamentals. It would take years to find all this information on the internet.

I also read this book and found the concepts extremely valuable. The book focuses on building a solid business foundation, and colorfully integrates the importance of retraining away from your pre-conditioning. The result — you begin to see new business opportunities that you never recognized before.

Nice website, I just came across it and I am already a fan. I recently reduced my weight thirty pounds in thirty days, and I am excited to share my weight loss success with as many people as possible. If I can lose the weight then any one can. No matter what you do, never quit and you WILL reach every one of your weight loss targets!

I’m not a big fan of the conventional understanding of the “Law of Attraction”, which reminds me of the “think system” of The Music Man.
However, leadership starts with having a clear vision about what you want to come about, and then figuring out how to make it happen. I like the saying, “What you focus on, magnifies.” These go hand in hand, for as you focus on something, your mind gets very creative about how to overcome each of the challenges and obstacles that stand in the way.
If a business owner has a very clear, compelling vision, and helps the team of people around him share that common vision, then they will be more effective than the competition in bringing that vision to fruition. In other words, their business will most decidedly grow and succeed.

Hi Ron-
Just to be clear, I’m not a believer in “think it and it will come” either. But I am an even bigger believer in “training your brain” especially since I wrote this review. I believe that our brain is a pattern recognizing machine and it often gets stuck in comfortable patterns. To re-set your brain requires — well — focused thought. But it ALSO requires action in the direction of that thought. So you can’t think yourself into a marathon runner – you can think about being one, you can decide to start training, you can start training and continue training and so on until you achieve your goal. Clear vision and Action — easier said than done 🙂
