Would you like to see how your information technology infrastructure and procedures stack up against other small businesses?
A group of companies, including Small Business Trends, have formed an industry coalition to benchmark the IT effectiveness of small and medium sized businesses around the world. (Read the full announcement.)
How it works
The way it works is, you take a 12-question online survey about your information technology preparedness and processes. You receive a confidential score online immediately upon completing the survey. The score benchmarks how your business’s information technology compares with companies of comparable size and in the same industry. Afterwards you are emailed a detailed report with suggestions for how to improve.
Here at Small Business Trends, we got a “C” as our score — roughly average. Naturally, I would like to have seen our score be higher. So, why didn’t we score higher? Some of the reasons for not scoring higher are that we don’t have a dedicated in-house IT resource, and we had some downtime at our previous Web host.
Had I taken the survey 6 months ago, the score would have been lower — we have been upgrading our technology recently. My plan is to continue to upgrade our IT and improve that score further, and the emailed report suggested a number of areas to focus on.
I am also looking forward to the end of the year, to get a copy of the SMB IT Effectiveness Index Annual Report. This report will summarize the survey data and will be provided free-of-charge to everyone who took the survey.
