Money making inspiration cartoon

When I write cartoons I often use a small legal notepad and jot down phrases, words, anything that comes to mind. Once I have a largish selection of ideas, I work on creating gags from them.

I turn my original ideas over and over in my head looking at them from all directions until something pops for me. Which is how the above cartoon came to be, except there was an odd twist.

I remember I’d written “numbers speak for themselves” at the top of the page and I was working on speech gags (mimes, telephones, talking dogs) for a while when I noticed at the bottom of the page “unavailable for comment.” The “a-ha!” moment happened, I drew arrows connecting the phrases and put the sheet it my idea box.

    Mark,

Is this is an example of lateral thinking? 🙂

  2. I guess if they don’t have anything good to say, they shouldn’t say anything at all. 🙂 Keep them coming, they’re my favorite part of Friday mornings.

  3. Thanks, Mark, for this. I love your cartoons with the charts.

Because, you see, in my corporate life in the past, I spent so many hours either creating charts, or sitting around conference tables viewing charts, that all your funny comments resonate with me.

Many times I would be sitting there and hear a comment by the presenter that made about as much sense as the commenter’s statement in this cartoon. And my mental reaction was one of bafflement, just like the expressions on the faces of the characters sitting around the table in your cartoon. 🙂

  4. Martin – I think more than anything it’s just plain lucky thinking. 😉

Amanda – There’s a good cartoon in what you said! Thanks!

Anita – I was never the chart creator, but I sat through plenty of meeting graph heavy meetings. The only bright side was it gave me time to think of cartoons! 😉

    Mark,

You really are a “lucky” guy then! I think it is more of an expert in gut feeling! 😉

  6. I enjoy your cartoons. They always enlighten the day. Thanks for the smile.

It’s hard to find intellectual cartoons these days. Keep them coming!

  8. Okay Mark, No comment too… (LOL)

@Amanda, you’re right. If you don’t have something helpful to say, better not say it..

  9. Unfortunately the sales chart looks too much like many I’ve seen lately – and yes they do have a way of silencing us all! Thanks Mark – I’ve printed and posted in my office as a good reminder to find humor in any/all situations.

  10. I wonder where you got all these Mark. But I love it! 😉
