101 Tips for Getting Started with Email Marketing

OTTAWA (PRESS RELEASE – July 16, 2009) – Campaigner, a leading email marketing solutions provider, launched 101 Tips for Getting Started with Email Marketing to help small business owners implement and enhance successful email marketing campaigns. Launched in March, Campaigner’s weekly tips continued in June with advice to help small businesses improve the deliverability of their email marketing campaigns by setting clear expectations and following best practices.

June tips offered guidance on such topics as how to introduce yourself and set the stage, the importance of formatting consistency and pointers on when and how to say ‘Thanks!’ to your subscribers to set a positive tone and build trust. Best practices tips delivered in June focused on helping small business owners avoid content and wording that can trigger spam filters or cause subscribers to report you as spammer, which can damage your deliverability rate and your reputation as a good email marketer.

To learn more about these tips, listen to Campaigner’s most recent podcast, Getting Started with Email Marketing: Improving Deliverability.

Upcoming tips will focus on the role personalization and targeting play in improving deliverability. Sample tips planned for July include:

• Have the sender in the ‘From’ line be a known person or brand
• Know your customers’ interests
• Use transactional emails to your advantage
• Demographics increase deliverability
• Target existing customers with ‘extreme relevancy’

“Email marketing’s effectiveness and ROI have been proven, but many business owners are understandably wary of spam and concerned that their emails won’t get delivered” said Steve Adams, Campaigner’s vice president of marketing. “The good news is that much of deliverability is in the hands of the business owners – those who follow best practices and deliver valuable content get the highest deliverability rates – as high as 90 percent of emails delivered according to a recent report from Aberdeen Group. Campaigner’s goal is to constantly provide the tips and knowledge small businesses need to attain this level of expertise and get the best results possible.”
