How To Make Money From Blogging With Chris Brogan

How To Make Money From Blogging With Chris BroganThis question comes up a lot especially amongst small business owners and entrepreneurs:  How do I make money from blogging?

The bottom line is there are TONS of ways to make money directly and indirectly from your blog including selling a product or service, sponsorships and tasteful (keyword tasteful) advertising (that is what we do), affiliate marketing and many more.

That being said, the most successful blogs aren’t advertisements. They aren’t a bullhorn telling people to buy, buy, buy! The top end of blogs are educational and informative as opposed to hard selling. Meaning they are focused around a topic, not a product.

But let’s not forget the purple elephant in the room for business owners: We want to make money. Money is a good thing.

I always figure a good way to learn is to ask the very best and that is Chris Brogan from ChrisBrogan.com and also the co-author of Trust Agents.

In this video, Chris discusses how he monetizes his blog and my hope is it will inspire all of us to do the same in our own unique way. You can also check out over 45 more minutes with Chris with all kinds of advice for small business owners.

  3. David,

Thank you for doing this for Small Business Trends.

A video interview with Chris has the potential to help folks understand why Chris rocks.

A lot of people come up to me and ask, “Joel, what’s the big deal about this Chris Brogan guy, anyway?” And, “he’s just one person.” Cmon!

It’s kind of hard to explain just how smart and just how good he is. A video goes a long way in doing so…

I’ve learned a ton from him.

    Transparency, baby!

  4. Definitely, Joel. And I appreciate the kind words. A video paints about 1,000,000 words.

  5. Hi David,

there are TONS of ways indeed. I think one must only keep in mind that his or her blog is first an identity in itself and then a mirror of his options/interests etc.

    David,

Interesting interview with Chris Brogan. I saw a “product placement” in the video! 😉 “Trust Agents” is a great book! 🙂

I haven’t become rich on my blogging in a direct way yet, I am still a “poor” capitalist! But I am trading values with fellow bloggers on a regular basis that is generating business opportunities. Due to the fact that I have been blogging since 2002, I have built a personal brand and one thing has lead to another thing. I am starting to see the possibilities to harvest from the seeds. Did you know that it takes about six months before you could harvest chile pepper plants? 😉

My social media activities has created speaking engagements at Rotary and Movex (Lawson) Enterprise Resource Planning software user association conference, workshops at the Computer Association in Gothenburg, and my own courses in social media, “conversational marketing” and personal branding at the adult educational organization called Sensus. My long-range goal is to write (blog), talk (public speaking) and educate (courses, workshops, etc.) on an international scale, focus on cross-cultural business behavior and create a global bridge between the old world and the North American market. I am interested in discussing business opportunities and new ventures when it comes to social media and business intelligence through the supply and value chain.

  7. Lloyd – Very true.

Martin – Well said, there are many ways to monetize directly and indirectly depending on your model and sounds like you have done a nice job of it.
