SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “SCORE recognizes and honors volunteer service to the small business community. During National Volunteer Week, SCORE focuses on the valuable contribution that volunteers make to assist entrepreneurs in communities across America with mentoring and business advice.” Yancey adds, “SCORE volunteers donate more than 1 million hours each year to help create and save jobs by helping entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. Thank you to the more than 12,400 SCORE volunteers who donate their time and expertise to support small businesses.”

SCORE’s working and retired volunteers are successful business professionals who volunteer their time to mentor small business owners. They come from a variety of occupations and backgrounds. Many owned small businesses for years; others worked for major firms such as 3M, General Electric and Proctor & Gamble. They span all generations and minority groups. This variety of backgrounds and skills adds value to the quality of SCORE’s business advice.

Many SCORE volunteers continue to work as corporate executives or own their own businesses. They enjoy being in business and dedicating some of their spare time to helping others. Some volunteers went back into business after retirement but remain as counselors. Others never left the world of business, keeping them in tune with changes and trends in the business world. All SCORE volunteers are there to help entrepreneurs find their way to success.

Nationally, SCORE provides free and confidential business counseling to more than 375,000 small business clients each year. Connect with a SCORE counselor:
