For a good while there “multitask” was the word. I don’t exactly know where whence it sprang, but my managers seized upon it quickly and with great fervor.
They weren’t asking me to do more work, I just needed to ‘multitask.’ (It was more work.)
It’s since lost some of its initial luster, and I think we’ve all taken it for granted as pretty much how things get done nowadays, but I remember its inception, and the above cartoon is how I felt after being introduced to it.
