British Airways Face of Opportunity Contest

As part of its Face to Face program, British Airways is holding an entrepreneurial competition, with the chance to win free international airline tickets to help you do business globally. Some 250 small business owners will win international airfare to anywhere British Airways flies. The top three video entrants will have the opportunity to present their pitches to a celebrity panel, and the grand prize winner gets 10 international airline tickets.

Great Emerging Franchise Challenge
Enter by October 25, 2010

This challenge is designed to help entrepreneurs who are currently operating a business and have a vision of a wildly successful national franchise. You must explain why your business is right for franchising and meet the following requirements:

1) Own an operating business for at least 12 months (sorry, no startups or “great ideas”)
2) Annual sales must exceed $250,000
3) U.S.-based company in good legal and tax standing
4) If you are currently a franchise owner, you must have fewer than five locations
5) Agree you will not argue with the judges’ decisions, which are final

The winning business will be awarded over $50,000 in services from an all-star team of franchise professionals.

Startup Open

Startup Open is a competition for startups created during Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 15-21). The GEW 50–the 50 most promising startups launched during the Week–will be announced, and one entrepreneur will receive a free trip to Richard Branson’ s private island to network with experienced entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs expecting to have a “startup moment” during Global Entrepreneurship Week can enter until October 31. A panel of judges will review each of the entries and select the GEW 50 based on a range of criteria including strength of concept, growth projections and knowledge of the market.

Launch Lewiston-Auburn Maine Contest
Enter by January 2011

The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council (LAEGC) and the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce have launched an entrepreneurial contest that has an ambitious goal of connecting with youth who have roots in the local community, and encouraging them to consider starting a business in Lewiston-Auburn, Maine. The program, called Launch L-A!, features a contest inviting young entrepreneurs to submit a proposal to start a business in L-A.

The winning entrepreneur will receive an equity infusion of $10,000 to $20,000 in seed money, along with a number of in-kind services for a year, including business consulting, accounting services, legal fees, advertising agency services, rent and more — all provided by Chamber members. Runners-up may also receive in-kind services. See website for entry rules.
