Unleashing Bold Initiatives

This summer, while reviewing my inventory of cartoons, I noticed that I was seriously lacking in cat cartoons. And as cat cartoons are some of my most popular images, I set about creating a list of things about and related to cats. Just below “hairball” and above “finicky” was “considered sacred in ancient Egypt.”

So I looked at my cat sitting regally on the love seat and thought to myself, “I bet she knows that.” (You just know cats are thinking “I used to be royalty, you know, and I’m just waiting for that to come around again. Now be a good boy and fetch me some Fancy Feast.”)

And so the cartoon above was born thusly: Egypt cat thing + business interview = feline resume padding.

I didn’t say cartooning made sense.

  1. Ah, Mark, this one is great! “Feline resume padding” indeed. In my past career I did a stint as VP of Human Resources. I’ve seen human resume padding that is no less outrageous than this. Thanks for the Friday morning chuckle….

  2. Glad you liked it! Also, cats sitting in a chair like that are just plain fun to draw.

My wild guess is that Morris the cat has a link to the ancient Greece…

  4. Mark, I think I enjoy your short post and explanation as much as I enjoy your cartoons! I like knowing how you got to a specific cartoon concept. You write it in a way that I get a better sense of the humor. Thanks for the chuckle. I’ve had cats in my life, but mostly now just feral ones that come in and kill creatures living in the jungle that used to be a yard. The cats will be sad if I ever start manicuring this place. They’d have nowhere to hide from the bald eagles and ospreys and falcons that also live nearby. Now they just have free rein on the small critters also trying to hide in my special “no mow” grass. I think my wife got the seed mix from a nuclear waste facility because it grows faster than I can mow and has gotten almost as tall as me!

  5. Great Mark. Thanks for the post
