  4. Based on my experiences, a major barrier to outsourcing is that companies just do not know where exactly it should be used. I believe this is a good article, as it explains that the balance is needed on a case by case basis rather than a silver bullet of outsourcing one specific IT function. I own ( and it is very interesting to see what can be outsourced and where. As a virtual business, many administrative functions are directed to regions where I have had the best experiences with staff in those functions. However, when working with planners, it is better for certain states in the USA or countries the client is based. If I tried to go to one country for everything or outsource the same function at a single firm, it just would not work at all. There was definitely a learning curve for this.
