One of my favorite cartoonists is Jack Ziegler. I have a few collections of Ziegler’s cartoons, and reading through them you can’t help notice that the guy has done his fair share of toaster cartoons. My personal favorite is the Munch Master toaster with the two pieces of ‘The Scream’ toast popping up.
So one night while perusing some Ziegler, I decided I should try to do my own toaster cartoon. This is not as easy as it sounds. I ran through all sorts of terrible concepts until, finally, I came across one that I really liked. Then I remembered it was a Sidney Harris cartoon. Argh!
A few days later, I was revisiting this idea again and started placing toasters in all kinds of scenes. It took a bit to figure out the joke, and even longer to chisel out this caption. But now I have my very own toaster cartoon.
And I can rest safe in the knowledge that I’m not going to try to do another for a good, long while.
