When in Doubt, Ask the Spouse

When I’m writing, it’s common for me to run my latest (and hopefully greatest) ideas past my wife.

Normally, I get a laugh or a nod and sometimes a puzzled look, but mostly I just get recognition that it’s pretty good and I move on. But this cartoon had me stumped.

Originally it had the three barbershop quartet members looking sad in a panel with just “Cutbacks” underneath. It was weird, a little sad, but definitely off, which happens. Hey, they can’t all be masterpieces.

But I showed it to my wife and she said, “You should have one of the guys saying it. Like ‘darn cutbacks’ or something.”

She was totally right. I changed it right away and now it’s one of my recent favorite cartoons. I feel like maybe I should have added an ‘s’ after my signature though to give credit where credit is due.
