Wix.com, the drag and drop Web design platform, has just announced a full redesign of its cloud based Web editing software. The redesign introduces a range of new features, including some to help businesses personalize and tailor their sites to be more effective.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to your small business and its website, you may already be familiar with Wix.com. The platform is designed to let anyone with a working knowledge of a computer create a website. That means no writing code or knowing the many acronyms that litter the programming world. If you can drag and drop, you are more than halfway done with creating a website with Wix.

As one of the leading companies in this space, Wix is continuously introducing new capabilities to advance DIY Web design. But the company has also focused on creating a tool small businesses can use to quickly and inexpensively create a Web presence.

Wix has created a user interface that is more intuitive with integrated functionality, templates with hundreds of pre-designed components, a visual and enjoyable design experience and a streamlined learning curve.

In a release announcing the newly redesigned editor, Avishai Abrahami, Wix co-founder and CEO, explained:

“Based on the user’s business category, the new Editor provides a tailored experience, where the features and capabilities most needed are at their fingertips. This isn’t just a product improvement, it’s a leap in what the market has come to expect from code-free platforms,”

Some of the new features of the Wix overhaul include:

Full Screen Strip Layouts

This lets you clearly split sections in your page with horizontal strips. Each section can have video, image galleries, text and more for a polished look. And all it takes is dragging and dropping the content you want into the strip containers to position them the way you like.

Full Page Video Background

Video is now a key component in websites. And you can upload your own videos or choose from Wix’s free video background library to create a moving background image that adds a professional look to your site.

The background videos can also be customized by adding layered design elements, including pattern overlays and color palettes.

Single-Click Parallax Effect

With just a single click, you can add a parallax scrolling effect; a first for code-free platforms.

Anchor Menus and Docking Elements

This makes navigating your site more enjoyable, especially for long scrolling websites.

Personalization and Tailored Features

The Wix Editor and the App Market can make recommendations based on your profile for design and business elements.

Vertical Templates

These templates are designed to address the needs of businesses with new capabilities for adding more features with the drag and drop interface.

Contextual In-Editor Support

The Wix Editor offers an intelligent and curated support designed to keep users from having to go elsewhere to get help. The entire process can be finalized within the Editor.

Abrahami goes on to say:

“Recognizing that today’s Internet users expect a personalized, intuitive and multi-faceted experience, we’ve created the industry’s most comprehensive code-free editing software for creating a professional online presence,”

According to the company, the new Wix Editor was developed using Facebook’s React technology. It has a codebase that is not as heavy, with better modularization and improved testability. And the company says this will allow it to roll out new features much more quickly.

Wix.com was founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. Headquartered in Tel Aviv, the company has a presence in Israel, the U.S. and Russia.

Currently the platform has more than 72 million registered users around the world. The company is also proud of the balance between its free and paying users. Wix estimates user growth of 34 percent annually, while revenue from subscribers to its paid services grew by more than 40 percent in the second quarter.

  1. I know a lot of business owners who use Wix. I guess it is a good tool for building websites especially if you don’t have a developer background.

  2. The new wix editor is shit, please excuse me for the language but there aint any other way to say it. Their old editor was so intuitive, easy and fast for making website, now it’s a hassle to do right about anything, and even though they keep on going on and on about the supposed great new features they really forget to say the numerous features that exist and that are now gone in the new version.
    A highly disapointed customer.
