Relaunch of Wix Music Platform Adds Distribution, Concert Promotion

Wix has relaunched and added additional components to its Wix Music platform, which debuted in March.

It was mainly positioned as a platform allowing musicians to upload their recorded music directly to their new Wix site and sell it immediately. Initially, Wix also offered specialty site themes.

Wix Music 2.0 is described as a comprehensive one-stop-shop online solution for musicians — but the site also is targeting the online music industry.

A total of six premium packages are now available, each of which serves as a standalone product. Together, they offer a comprehensive solution for indie bands to sell their music at competitive pricing.

The launch also includes a custom-made collaboration with YouTube entitled #OpeningAct that the company says will generate more than 100 million views for Wix Music user videos.

Wix says in a statement:

“Freeing musicians from the expensive and time-consuming task of piecing together the tools they need, Wix Music is a complete, commission-free platform, empowering artists to independently introduce, share, sell and distribute their music directly from their Wix websites.”

Specifically, the new Wix Music offers commission-free music sales of high quality FLAC & MP3 320kbs digital music files directly from the musicians’ Wix websites. It also offers distribution to more than 120 of the biggest streaming services and online stores, including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, Deezer, Rdio and more. There’s also tour and show promotion and ticketing through seamless website integration with BandsInTown or Songkick; and Wix ShoutOut for integrated email and social marketing.

Also available is the ability to offer commission-free merchandise sales through Wix’s eCommerce solution, as well as an electronic press kit builder to create password-protected and customizable EPK. The list of available features for musicians also includes analytics for music sales, shares, downloads and streams via the musician’s Wix website and other distribution platforms; and tailored website templates specifically built for musicians.

Avishai Avrahami, Wix.com’s Co-founder and CEO, says:

“Wix Music was designed to put the artists in control of their brand, their art and their business. It is the perfect example of our commitment to providing our users with all of the tools they need to make their dreams a reality online. Wix Music gives musicians an all-in-one technological solution for all aspects of their business from building a stunning website and engaging their fans to selling their music, all while keeping 100% of the profits from their art.”

For the launch, Wix has allied with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, one-time idie artists who achieved stardom and serve as models for many independent recording artists.

As part of this collaboration, the Seattle-based duo are creating a series of custom videos for Wix Music users to help mentor emerging artists as well as offer guidance on how to succeed as an independent artist.

As part of the Wix Music launch, Wix is offering the #OpeningAct campaign in partnership with YouTube. This effort is to help promote Wix musicians.

In one week, Wix says this will generate more than 100 million views for its users’ music videos.
