web hosting bookWeb hosting can be so confusing. With all the tech lingo and different choices to sort through, it’s hard to keep straight let alone make an informed decision.

And what’s important isn’t always what you think. If you think price is the only or most important factor, you are overlooking key issues. Like:

  • How easy is it to update and control the back end of your site?  Is a CPanel interface provided? Are one-click installs of other programs provided? And more to the point, do you know how to use all those services or are you so baffled you just ignore them?
  • If you need fast support, such as to set up email accounts, is there a number you can call included in your plan? Or are you limited to looking up information in a knowledge base and sending written requests?
  • Do you understand concepts like DNS, and how to set up your DNS and other options?
  • What kind of security do you need? Do you know what steps to take to back up and secure your site?

These and other questions are critical. But the terminology and concepts are so foreign to most non-technical site owners and business executives, that you might as well be reading another language.

  1. I thought that I know a lot of things about web hosting. But it seems that there is a lot of aspects about it that I still have to learn. I guess I should get this book to learn more.

  2. You cannot learn web hosting overnight. As for me, I took some time to learn it. But once learned, it is something that can stick with you for life.
