The Benefits of Working Backwards

easy come easy go business cartoon

Sometimes I like to work backwards.

For example with this cartoon I drew the zig-zagging sales graph first and then tried to figure out what the people in the meeting might think about it.

There was a see-saw joke, something about M’s and W’s, shark’s teeth … But once ‘easy come, easy go’ suggested itself, I knew I was close. Then it was just naming the guy Phil, introducing some tension, and I backed into what is one of my recent favorites.
