25 Veteran Entrepreneurs Will Receive Small Business Grants This Fall

Many of the leadership and work ethic qualities that people develop during military service also translate well into entrepreneurship. However, many veteran business owners struggle to get funding for their projects. A new grant program aims to right this wrong, providing small infusions of cash to veteran business owners. Founders First Tadlock Grant Program

Founders First is offering a new grant program to support veteran business owners. The Tadlock Grant program will provide 25 grants of $1,000 to qualified businesses. Requirements include being founded by a U.S. Military veteran with an active U.S. based business employing between 2 and 50 people. The application period runs now through October 18. Winners will be announced on November 11 – Veterans Day.

Durant Industrial Authority Small Business Grants

Durant, Oklahoma is launching a new grant program to support its local small businesses. The Durant Industrial Authority is facilitating the program, which offers one-time grants of up to $5,000. The city has a total of $200,000 to award, and eligible expenses include renovations and marketing. To qualify for the program, businesses must be former DIA boot camp participants and have 15 employees or fewer. Recipients must also complete 30 hours of training with the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center once selected. This is an ongoing program, with applications due on the 20th of each month.

Piqua Small Business Grant Program

Piqua, Ohio is establishing its own Small Business Grant Program to support pandemic recovery efforts. The City Commission allocated $350,000 toward the program, which will focus primarily on facade improvement and building renovations in downtown Piqua. The program will match funds from eligible project expenses and will continue until funds have been exhausted. The application process will repeat until all of the funds have been exhausted. The initial application period will run through October 14.

Maine Forestry Recovery Initiative

Maine is dedicating $14 million to a new round of grant funding for Maine forestry companies. This is the second round of the Forest Recovery Initiative, which initially provided $20 million to 219 forestry companies back in November 2021. The Maine Technology Institute will administer the program, which will provide between $250,000 to $2,000,000 to eligible companies. Funds can be used to address new market demands, develop sustainable new products, or advance long-term stability and pandemic recovery efforts. The deadline to apply for phase two funds is October 18.

Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Development Grants

A new grant program is supporting small businesses in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is partnering with the Downtown Development Authority of Sault Ste. Marie to fund and facilitate the program. Eligible uses for funding include interior renovations, technical assistance, technology upgrades, and pandemic-related upgrades. Each business can apply for up to $25,000, but a 10 percent match is required. Businesses must also demonstrate a need to renovate and provide estimates from contractors. The deadline to apply is October 6.

Scranton Small Business Improvement and Startup Grants

Scranton, Pennsylvania recently opened applications for two new small business grant programs. The first program offers grants of up to $10,000 to cover small business facade improvements. A partial match is required to qualify for this program. The second program provides funds to those considering opening new businesses in the city. Funding for these initiatives comes from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
