Careers: Talking Turkey

Small Business Cartoon: The Deadly Internal Audit

Every year I do a certain number of holiday cartoons. While they always sell well, they’re among the hardest ideas to generate.

Thanksgiving is the hardest. Halloween and Christmas have tons of great stuff to play with, and Valentine’s Day is pretty good, but Thanksgiving is pretty much just turkey.

One year I got to thinking about how bad it has to be being a turkey in November, and that led to a host of other holiday animals’ woes. Except for the groundhog.

He sleeps, he wakes up. Shadow, no shadow, back to sleep. Nice and easy.

So I thought it would be funny to have other holiday animals complaining about that, and the above cartoon emerged.

(Note – this cartoon is one of my favorites because I can use it for Thanksgiving, Easter and Groundhog’s Day. Talk about multi-tasking!)

  1. Mark,

Could I use your cartoon “4728” in my #GoodThing Carnival & Chat? For more information, please read my post, Blog Carnival, by click on my name (Martin Lindeskog).

Have a tasty turkey dinner! 🙂 My guess is that a groundhog is not a culinary delicacy… 😉

Have you been in Jamestown, Virginia?

  2. Martin — you are correct: a groundhog is NOT a tasty culinary delicacy. Good for groundhogs … no wonder they have it so easy on Groundhog’s Day. No one chasing them around with visions of dinner in their heads…. 🙂

  3. That’s good to know! 😉

I like turkey, ostrich, chicken and other tasty animals!

    Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

  4. The Groundhog does have a sweet gig.

Even if he wakes up to clouds once in awhile.

It’s kind of like being a small business owner. Sometimes it’s cloudy, but when it’s sunny…
