Launching a New Marketing Tips Section

I am thrilled to announce that we’ve launched a new section here at Small Business Trends called “Marketing Tips,” with the support of Hewlett Packard (HP). We’ll be creating special content with marketing tips you can use.

HP has given us access to a number of in-house people so that we can pick their brains and include their expertise. That kind of access has been invaluable.

As a result of their support I’ve been able to get additional help to pull together some special inititiatives — and I think you’re going to be excited about those.

  • Our first one is called “Top Experts Dish About their Best Kept Marketing Secrets.” We polled a number of top marketers, small business experts and well-known bloggers to bring you their closely guarded marketing secrets. But there’s a role for you too: I’d like to ask you to submit one of your marketing secrets in the comments section of that article. At the end of February I will take 100 of the most inventive tips and put them all in a downloadable document. That way, everyone gets a chance to have their marketing secret be included.

  • Our second article is about developing your first logo (or overhauling your existing one): “Tips from the Professionals for Creating Your First Logo — Without Spending a Fortune.” I’ve often wished for advice about how to develop a proper logo. I’ve made just about every mistake you could make. Logos too long horizontally; colors that did not show up accurately in print; logos that did not translate well to monogramming. You name it, I’ve made the mistake. For a long time I’ve wanted to do a piece that focused on good logo design from a small business perspective — beyond the obvious. This project helped me do that.

I hope you enjoy the articles. There will be quite a few more to come. And there will be opportunities for you to participate, share your knowledge and get recognition for it. I hope to see you join in.
