Spotlight: myInterview Offers an Alternative Hiring Process


Interviewing is an integral part of the hiring process. When you interview potential new employees, you can get a pretty good idea of whether or not they might be a good fit for your company within a few minutes. But doing a lot of interviews for every new opening can take up a lot of time and resources.

The startup myInterview thinks there’s a better way. The company uses video technology to bring interviews to the beginning of the hiring process. Read more about this interesting concept in this week’s Small Business Spotlight.

What the Business Does

Offers an online platform for video interviews.

Businesses that use the platform can invite job applicants to complete video interviews of up to 10 questions on the site. Individuals can also sign up for the platform and use it to search for job opportunities. This process can help businesses gather more information about each candidate so they don’t have to use the resources to interview each one in person. Co-founder Guy Abelsohn says:

“By allowing job applicants to reveal the personality behind their resume you can make a more informed decision about who you bring in for a face-to-face interview saving lots of time and money.”

Business Niche

Offering the video option as the first step.

Abelsohn explains:

“MyInterview is the only video interview website where applicants complete a video interview at step one of the application process. This means that employers can review resumes alongside videos, giving a greater insight into whether or not a candidate is right for the role upon first review.”

How the Business Got Started

As an attempt to improve the hiring process.

After Abelsohn and co-founder Benjy Gillman finished high school in 2009, they found it difficult to get hired anywhere right away. They felt that technology could greatly improve the hiring process, so they set out to change it themselves. After four years of development, launched in 2014.




Biggest Win

Raising capital investment.

Abelsohn says:

“This investment allowed for the development of software that would be superior to anything that had started to emerge in the market after the GFC.”

Lesson Learned

Focus more on direct selling.

Abelsohn explains:

“If we were to do it again, we would focus more on direct selling and less on above the line, more immeasurable marketing techniques. Direct selling means that you can focus more on the needs of potential customers and build strong relationships in the process.”
