As a small business owner, we are constantly trying to not only produce good work, but to consistently make more money in our business. We see other people in our industry doing quite well and we wonder why are they making all of the money while we sit here – struggling to keep the doors open.

We ask ourselves, “What do they have that I don’t?” Or we write them off as having good luck or being fortunate enough to be connected to the right people. Very seldom do business owners look WITHIN as a reason why they lack the financial success that they desire.

This is where Suzanne Evans comes into play.

I stumbled upon Suzanne Evans’ book The Way You Do Anything is the Way You Do Everything: The Why of Why Your Business Isn’t Making More Money at the local library and was instantly intrigued by her no-nonsense approach to business building.

With a foreword written by “The Pitbull of Personal Development,” Larry Winget, it was clear that this book was not for those who were seeking someone to hold their hand and pat them on the back as a way to offer encouragement. Instead, Suzanne reveals that there is no secret to success. What we feel may be the “secret” is actually no secret at all.

In fact, the “secret” is something that we’ve failed to see – our own actions.

Everything that happens in our lives is a direct consequence of our own actions and attitudes.

The book is split into 15 short and easy to read chapters, each one leading to a homework assignment; a series of questions to prompt you to think about how you’re sabotaging your business and ways to reverse your mindset. She begins by declaring that success takes immersion. The goal should never be to simply stay in the race, but to actually win it.

In Order To Win, We Must Stretch Ourselves Towards Our Goal, Dramatically

“What separates excellence from average is not talent or opportunity. It is approach.”

Throughout the book, Evans continues to point out different areas we all tackle in our lives and businesses. In order to succeed and to make more money, she describes how we must transform our mind to have the guts to go after what it is we want. Our business is just that, a business, not a hobby, and it should be treated as such.

We should never be afraid to invest in ourselves and our business. She states:

“You must be ready and willing, financially, to invest money in your business.”

When You Are Cheap To Invest, You Will Attract Cheap

Overall, this book would be a great addition to your personal library for when you run into periods where you can’t quite understand what it is that’s holding you back from achieving the amount of success you desire.

Sometimes the answers lie within us and we just simply need an outsider to look within and help us see. This book does a great job at identifying those areas that we should look within, with tools and examples to help us shift mentally and emotionally.
